At just 17 years old, Luis left his hometown of Zacatecas, Mexico, carrying with him memories of a happy childhood and the difficult realization that building a future and raising a family there would be challenging due to limited job opportunities.

With hope, uncertainty, and determination, Luis came to the United States in search of something better. “When I left my home and my family, I felt sadness and uncertainty,” Luis recalls. “I didn’t know if it would all be worth it, or when I would see my family again.”

Like many immigrants, Luis’s early years in the United States were marked by hard and sacrifice. His first job was in  landscaping, and he tried different types of work before discovering the restaurant industry a field that would shape his life

for more than two decades.

“There were moments when I wanted to give up,” Luis admits. “But I knew I had a purpose, and that pushed me to keep going.”

Over time, coworkers became extended family. Through long shifts and demanding environments, Luis learned not only how restaurants operate, but how leadership, teamwork, and discipline create success.

Luis spent more than 20 years in the restaurant industry, including 15 years as a manager, and eventually became a shareholder.

“It felt like I finally belonged like I was part of society,” Luis says. “It gave me opportunities to grow and eventually made owning my own business possible.”

After years of preparation and sacrifice, Luis opened Quesadillas Bar and Mexican Grill, where he now serves as Owner and General Manager.

For Luis, ownership represents far more than business success.

“It’s an accomplishment,” he says simply.

And for those just starting out, Luis offers simple but powerful advice:

“Always trust yourself. Be confident enough to overcome your fears.”
